Exercising outdoors can be challenging in winter, especially when the weather is freezing cold ❄️🌨🥶

Dressing appropriately means you can enjoy a safe and comfortable workout with Cardio Plein Air.

Read on for some tips on how to properly dress for your favourite outdoor activity this winter:

    Opt for layered clothing!

    1-Base layer:

The base layer comes into direct contact with the skin. Its main function is to wick moisture away from the body and onto the surface of the fabric, where it can be evaporated. Focus on fabric thickness and weight according to the expected weather conditions and the type of activity you plan to engage in. If you are planning on wearing an outer layer or a backpack, opt for seamless or flat-seamed apparel that won’t rub against your skin. Moreover, look for a snug fit that won’t restrict your movements.

Ideally made of synthetic or merino wool, the base layer must dry quickly, absorb moisture and repel it to the outside of the fabric.

    2-Insulating layer:

Mid layers are designed to offer extra insulation while retaining warmth inside. Soft, plush fabrics like fleece offer good protection because they provide insulation without being bulky, while allowing warm, moist air to escape. Thick, gridded polar fleece works beautifully, trapping heat without adding bulk to garments. Alternatively, lightweight, thin and warm mid layers can be easily compressed and are equipped with armpit and chest slides to help regulate body temperature, while leaving enough room to be worn over a base layer and still allow movement.

While mid layers are available in a variety of materials, those made from synthetic fibres and down will keep you warmer when the temperature drops.

    3-Outer layer or shell:

The outer layer acts as the first line of defence against the elements. Depending on the weather, you may opt for a windproof or rainproof layer, or a combination of both. This layer must be made of breathable fabric and should allow moisture to escape from the inner layers. It should also be large enough to wear on top of mid and base layers, yet not too loose, to prevent heat loss. Additionally, it must offer great ease of movement.

    Pants and gloves:

Wear comfortable pants along with some warm, waterproof gloves to guard against the cold and wet.

Materials like fleece are excellent for this.

    Hats and scarves:

Protect your head and stay warm with a hat and scarf.

👉 To sum up, when engaging in activity in extreme cold ❄️🥶❄️😱🥶, wear a breathable underwear, a wool sweater and a jacket made of windproof, waterproof material.

👉 That way, you’ll wick away moisture, retain heat and protect yourself from the elements.

Layer your clothing and enjoy outdoor winter activities in Quebec in total safety and comfort.

“The cold isn’t an excuse to stay inactive. All you have to do is dress appropriately to make outdoor exercise both comfy and enjoyable.”

Remember that feet can freeze in winter. Therefore, wear comfortable sports footwear or boots, as well as thick socks to shield your feet from the cold.

Finally, don’t forget to bring water to stay hydrated, as well as a backpack to store spare clothes.

Follow these tips to be able to enjoy your favourite activity in complete safety and comfort, even in the coldest weather 🥶.

So get out and enjoy the fresh air! 💪☃
